About NSS:


The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-sponsored public service program in India, launched in 1969 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The program primarily involves college and university students, encouraging them to participate in various activities like environmental conservation, literacy campaigns, health and hygiene awareness, disaster
relief, and rural development. By engaging in these initiatives, students cultivate a sense of social responsibility, leadership, and teamwork. NSS operates under the motto "Not Me, But You", emphasizing selfless service and community welfare. At the College of Applied Science Chelakkara, NSS is an integral part of student life, fostering a spirit of volunteerism and leadership.


The National Service Scheme (NSS) of the College of Applied Science (IHRD), Chelakkara, actively engages students in community service, social responsibility, and leadership development. The college proudly hosts two NSS Units – 33 and 83, which are dedicated to fostering a spirit of volunteerism and service among students. These units play a pivotal role in societal development through various initiatives focusing on health, environment, and skill enhancement.

  • To instill values of selfless service, leadership, and social responsibility among students.
  • To promote community engagement through activities related to health, environment, and
    social awareness.
  • To encourage students to participate in nation-building efforts through voluntary service.

Key Achievements:- 

  1. Prestigious Awards & Recognitions 
     Republic Day Parade Representation (2023, 2024 & 2025): Volunteers participated in
    the prestigious Republic Day Parade Camp.
     One volunteer had the honor of attending the Republic Day Celebration at New Delhi
    as a guest.
     Kerala State Award for Best NSS Volunteer: A recognition for outstanding
    contributions to social service.

 State-Level Best Unit Award for "SPARSAM 21" Anti-Drug Campaign: A major
recognition for impactful anti-drug awareness initiatives.

exceptional efforts in the fight against substance abuse.
 "GREEN CAMPUS" Award: Recognized by the Local Self Government Department
Minister, Shri. M. V. Govindan, for outstanding environmental initiatives.
 Award for best Biodiversity college for the year 2020-21
2. National-Level Camp Participation
 Republic Day Parade Camp (2023, 2024 & 2025): NSS volunteers represented Kerala
at the national event.

Key Activities:-
1. Community Engagement & Health Initiatives
 Annual Blood Donation Drives: NSS Units 33 & 83 conduct yearly blood donation
drives, significantly contributing to healthcare support.
 Health Awareness Programs: Volunteers actively organize awareness campaigns on
hygiene, disease prevention, and mental health.
2. Environmental Conservation & Sustainable Initiatives
 Tree Plantation & Cleanliness Drives: Regular campaigns promoting eco-friendly
practices and sustainability.
 Promoting agriculture and the need to preservation of nature, our volunteers of college of
applied science, chelakkara turned for trailblazers for the public. We created a
biodiversity park in our college campus for the purpose of eco-friendly environment.
Biodiversity Park was named as ‘NEERMATHALAM’.

Every year, NSS organizes a 7-day residential camp, where volunteers engage in intensive
community development projects.
